I’m Elliot Sowersby. A WordPress Developer from Bridlington in Yorkshire, UK.
I started using WordPress in 2009, became a full-time developer in 2016, and founded RelyWP in 2019. Since then I have worked with hundreds of businesses to build, maintain and host their websites.
In more recent years my primary focus has been developing WordPress plugins, which have 135,000+ active installs combined.
My History With WordPress
I started using WordPress in late 2009. Back then, I managed and ran my own competitive gaming tournaments. I needed my own website, but didn’t have the funds to pay for one. My web host recommended WordPress (thankfully), and I gradually taught myself PHP development to build my own tournament management system, which went on to run 300+ tournaments for thousands of players.
This was just the beginning of my journey with WordPress and website development.
In 2013, I completed an Extended Diploma in ICT Level 3 at college, and then went to Hull University, graduating in 2016 with a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science.
During University, I was hired to write content for Red Bull eSports which required me to register as a sole trader. This gave me the idea to try making websites for clients to earn some extra money too.
I started working part-time building WordPress websites for several companies during my final year of University, initially looking for work on freelancer sites, and luckily landing a few great projects and clients, some of which I still work with today.
Once I had graduated from University in 2016, I continued as full-time WordPress developer working with hundreds of companies worldwide to help develop, manage, and maintain their websites, including The Fragrance Shop, Bluesound, Contently and many more.
In 2019, I decided to launch RelyWP, making the switch from running my business as a freelance sole-trader, to a limited company.
Since around 2022, my main focus has shifted towards WordPress plugin development, following the success of several projects that I have released over the years like Coupon Affiliates and Simple Cloudflare Turnstile.
I do however still continue to work with some clients on website development projects, care plans, and hosting via RelyWP.
As for the future, I aim to simply continue developing and improving my existing plugins, with plans to also create a few more useful plugins over the next few years.
